Supreme Leader's Nowruz Message on the Occasion of the Beginning of the Year 1405; the Year of "Resistance Economy in the Shadow of National Unity and National Security"

Grand Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Khamenei, the Supreme Leader of the Revolution, has announced this year's slogan as "Resistance Economy in the Shadow of National Unity and National Security."

According to Tractor Club's official media, the text of the Supreme Leader's message is as follows:

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

O Turner of hearts and sights, O Controller of night and day, O Changer of years and states, change our state to the best of states.

This spring, the spring of spirituality and the spring of nature – that is, the blessed Eid al-Fitr and the ancient Nowruz festival – coincide. I congratulate both these religious and national eids to every single member of the nation, and I especially extend my congratulations on the blessed Eid al-Fitr to all Muslims of the world. I also deem it necessary to congratulate everyone on the remarkable victories of the warriors of Islam, and to express my condolences and sympathy to all the families and survivors of the noble martyrs of the second imposed war, the January coup, the third imposed war, and the martyrs of security and border guards and the unknown martyr soldiers.

On the occasion of the approaching solar year 1405, I have some remarks which I will present below.

First, I will briefly review some of the important events of the past year. In the past year, our dear people experienced three military and security wars. The first war was the war of May/June (Khordad), during which the Zionist enemy, with the specific help of America and in the midst of negotiations, carried out a cowardly aggression, martyring some of the country's best generals and prominent scientists, and subsequently about 1,000 of our compatriots. Due to a gross miscalculation, the enemy thought that after a day or two, it would be the people themselves who would overthrow the Islamic system. But thanks to your vigilance, the unparalleled bravery of the warriors of Islam, and the great sacrifices made, very soon signs of wretchedness and misery appeared on the enemy, and by creating intermediaries and seeking a ceasefire, it somehow saved itself from the edge of the cliff.

The second war was the January coup, in which America and the Zionist regime, imagining that the Iranian people, due to imposed economic problems, would act upon the enemy's wishes, used their mercenaries to commit countless atrocities. They martyred even more of our dear compatriots than in the previous war and inflicted extensive damage.

The third war is the war in the midst of which we now find ourselves. On its first day, we bid farewell with tearful eyes and sad, broken hearts to the kind father of the nation, our great leader – may Allah elevate his noble status – as he eagerly led a caravan of martyrs on a heavenly journey toward a place prepared for him under divine mercy, in proximity to the holy lights, and among the truthful and the martyrs. From that same day onward, we have regretfully bid farewell, one by one, to the other martyrs of this war, including the young children of the Shajareh Tayyibeh school in Minab, the brave and oppressed stars of the destroyer Dena, the martyred commanders and warriors of the IRGC, the army, the police, the Basij, the unknown soldiers, the brave border guards, and the rest of the nation, young and old, as they passed before us in a caravan of light. This war took place after the enemy despaired of seeing a significant popular movement in its favour, and under the delusion that if it martyred the head of the system and a number of influential military figures, it would create fear and despair in you, dear people, causing you to abandon the field, and thereby realise its dream of dominating Iran and then dismembering it. But during this blessed month, you combined fasting with jihad, establishing a broad defensive line spanning the entire country, and solid stones as numerous as its squares, neighbourhoods and mosques, thus delivering such a staggering blow to the enemy that it has resorted to uttering contradictory words and numerous nonsensical statements – signs of lack of awareness and cognitive weakness.

Previously, on January 12 (22 Dey), you crushed the coup; on February 10 (22 Bahman), you once again showed your opposition to global arrogance and your tirelessness; and on March 12 (22 Esfand), which coincided with Quds Day, you struck this blow to make it understand that it is not only dealing with missiles, drones, torpedoes and military matters – Iran's front line is far larger than its petty and small-minded imagination. I must take this opportunity to thank every single dear citizen for creating this magnificent epic. I also thank the brave, truthful and popular president and other officials who attended these ceremonies among the people without ceremony or ostentation. This kind of action and its display can in itself be highly praiseworthy, as it further strengthens the cohesion between the nation and its rulers. Currently, due to the remarkable unity that has been created among you compatriots – with all your differing religious, intellectual, cultural and political backgrounds – the enemy has been broken. This must be considered a special blessing from the Almighty, and great thanks must be given for it verbally, in the heart, and in action.

One of the inviolable rules is that whenever a blessing is thanked for, in proportion to the amount of thanks, its roots become stronger or it is elevated, and more favours are sent to the thankful person. What is presently required in the position of practical thanks is that we consider this great blessing solely as a mercy from the Almighty and make the best possible use of it. This will certainly make this cohesion stronger and more steel-like, and your enemies will become more degraded and contemptible. This was a review of some of the important events of the year 1404.

Now, as we stand on the threshold of the year 1405, we are faced with several things. One is that we bid a final farewell to our dear guest, the blessed month of Ramadan 1447. A month during whose Night of Destiny your hearts turned to the higher realm, and you called upon the Merciful God, and He directed His merciful attention toward you. You asked from our Master (may Allah hasten his noble reappearance) and from God for victory, triumph, well-being and all kinds of blessings, and given the history of favours that God has always shown to this system and this nation, you will, God willing, receive either exactly what you asked for in your hearts or something better. This farewell – the more people's knowledge and awareness, the more bitter and sorrowful it will be – coincides with pressing the blessed and auspicious crescent of Shawwal al-Mukarram to our warm bosoms, and awaiting the gift of the Almighty with both fear and hope. I hope that after those dutiful nights and days of presence by you, dear nation, and the epic creation of Quds Day, the Almighty will not treat us except with His generosity, forbearance, forgiveness and abundant grace – to which we and you have become accustomed – and especially I hope that soon, with the glad tidings of a general opening in the matter of the public advent of our Master, the Guardian of the Great Age (may Allah hasten his reappearance), He will fill his blessed heart with joy, from which all kinds of blessings will descend upon the people of the world – by His grace and generosity.

Another thing we are faced with is the important occasion of the ancient Nowruz festival – an occasion that brings with it a gift from nature of renewal, freshness and life, and is fully suited for happiness and joy.

On the other hand, for the general public, this is the first year that our martyred leader and the other noble martyrs are not among us. Especially the hearts of the families and survivors of the martyrs are grieving for their loved ones. Yet, for my part, as a simple citizen who has several martyrs within my own circle, I imagine that while we wear the clothes of mourning and our hearts are nests of sorrow and grief for all the martyrs, we are nonetheless very happy that in these days, our new brides and grooms go to their marital homes. I pray that our martyred leader and the other noble martyrs of this war accompany these dear ones with their blessings. I recommend that the general public carry out the usual visits and gatherings of these days, while of course respecting the survivors of the martyrs and considering their feelings. Perhaps the people of each neighbourhood, if the necessary coordination is made and possible, could begin their New Year visits by honouring the martyrs of that neighbourhood. Of course, the period set by the esteemed government for mourning the martyrdom of our dear leader remains in place, and observing and maintaining that is considered a facet of the greatness of this system and country.

After these words, there are other brief remarks.

First, I must specially thank those who in these days, alongside their presence in the squares, neighbourhoods and mosques, have highlighted their social role with extra effort – including some production units, both governmental and private, and some service guilds, and especially those who provide all kinds of useful services to the people free of charge without their job requiring it; and, praise be to God, there is an abundance of such people.

Second, one of the enemy's avenues is its media operation. In these days, by specifically targeting the minds and spirits of some people, it aims to damage national unity, and thereby national security. We must be careful lest through negligence and by our own hands this sinister intention be realised. Hence, my recommendation to our domestic media – with all the intellectual, political and cultural differences they may have – is to seriously refrain from dwelling on weaknesses. Otherwise, the enemy may achieve its goal.

Third, one of the enemy's windows of hope is to exploit economic and managerial weaknesses that have long existed. Our martyred leader (may Allah elevate his status) for many years made the main focus and the slogan of the year about the economy. In my humble opinion, providing for the people's livelihoods, improving living and welfare infrastructure, and generating wealth for the general public, are focal points and constitute a form of defence, indeed a significant advance, against the economic war that the enemy has started. One of my blessings has been the opportunity to hear the words of our dear people from all social classes.

For instance, over a period of time, I travelled with an anonymous group – in a taxi that I had arranged at my own request – through the streets of Tehran, listening to your conversations. I considered this kind of sampling superior to many opinion polls. In many cases, my understanding agreed with your words, which were usually expressed as various criticisms related to economic and managerial aspects. In this way, I learned many things from you, and I continue to seek new learning. Even during these days before and after the 19th of Ramadan, I have learned new things from various individuals among you who were present in the squares. I hope not to be deprived of this blessing. As a result of this learning, listening, and other studies, an effort has been made to formulate an effective and expert remedy that is as comprehensive as possible. Fortunately, this has been achieved to an acceptable degree, and soon it will be ready for implementation by high-minded officials with the cooperation of all the nation – God willing. Finally, following the example of the great martyred leader, I announce this year's slogan as "Resistance Economy in the Shadow of National Unity and National Security."

Fourth and finally, what I mentioned in my first statement regarding the system's view and policy on interaction with neighbouring countries is a serious and real matter. Apart from the element of neighbourhood, we have other spiritual elements – foremost among them sharing faith in the noble religion of Islam, as well as the presence of holy shrines and sacred sites in some of them, the residence and employment of many Iranians in others, common ethnicity or language, or common strategic interests, especially against the front of arrogance – each of which alone can, in its own place, strengthen good relations. Among our eastern neighbours, I consider them very close to us. I have long known about Pakistan that it was a country particularly beloved by our martyred leader – an example of which appeared in the lump in his throat during his Friday prayer sermons because of the devastating flood that threatened the lives of our co-religionists there. And I myself have always thought the same way for various reasons, and I have never refrained from expressing it in various meetings. Here I want to request that our two brotherly countries – Afghanistan and Pakistan – must establish better relations with each other, for the sake of God's pleasure and even to prevent the breaking of the Muslim staff. For my part, I am ready to take necessary actions.

Furthermore, I note that the attacks that took place in Turkey and Oman – both of which have good relations with us – against some sites in those countries, were by no means carried out by the armed forces of the Islamic Republic or the other forces of the Resistance Front. This is a trick by the Zionist enemy, using the false flag tactic to create discord between the Islamic Republic and its neighbours, and it may also happen in some other countries. The rest of the points regarding this section I have already mentioned.

I hope that, by the prayers of our Master (may Allah hasten his reappearance) and the favour of the Almighty, we will have a year full of victory and all kinds of material and spiritual openings for our nation and all neighbours and Muslim nations, and especially for the elements of the Resistance Front, and a year not so for the enemies of Islam and humanity.

"And We wanted to confer favour upon those who were oppressed in the land and make them leaders and make them the inheritors, and to establish them in the land, and to show Pharaoh and Haman and their soldiers that which they feared from them." (Qur'an, 28:5-6) – The Most High, the Almighty, has spoken truth, and His Noble Messenger has spoken truth, and we are among the witnesses to that.

Peace be upon you and the mercy of Allah and His blessings.
